The IT Center organized and held a special staff development workshop for the staff members of the Center at Hotel Hilltop, Kandy on 22nd November, 2008.
In an effort to sustain good practices initiated under the IRQUE project, the Center funded the above training program designed for the Faculty of Arts.
Fulfilling the responsibility towards disseminating knowledge and enhancing the ICT skills of the future generation, the IT Center has taken steps beyond the boundaries of the University and engaging in teacher training programs.
The IT Center fully supported students’ initiatives such as this towards disseminating knowledge and upbringing skills, and facilitated holding seminars and workshops.
The visit by the CEO of SLT marked another major linkage between the IT Center and industry giants. A separate laboratory dedicated for research and development in networking research was established under this partnership.
The IT Center took another major leap towards establishing links with one of the networking giants, CISCO and being in the forefront of providing professional training programs when it established the CISCO Networking Academy under the CISCO Networking Academy Program (CNAP).
The IT Center was in the forefront in providing education to all, and its steps such as this paved the way for those outside the university, especially school children, to reap benefits from the technological resources available in the University.
One of the main responsibilities of the IT Center was to uplift the ICT skills of the undergraduates of the Faculty of Arts. The grants received for ICT enhancement were fully utilized towards achieving this objective in the early years of the Center.
