NBQSA -The National Best Quality Software Awards. The awareness session for the University of Peradeniya was held on 16th June at the IT Center. This was organized by BCS- The charted institute for IT and University of Peradeniya. NBQSA has been recognizing and honoring individuals and organizations in Sri Lanka who have made notable contributions to the development of high-quality ICT products. The objective of the competition is to elevate local ICT product standards to meet international marketplace requirements.
The poster presentation of the final projects of the staff IT development program-level 3 was held on Monday, February 20-2023 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the ground floor of the Senate building. 9 Groups was present their posters and Dr. Janaka Wijekulasuriya, Former Director, Information Technology and the Dr. D.M.I.S. Dasanayake, Acting Director of Information Technology Center was participate this event. This course is offered for the staff of the University of Peradeniya and it covers the data analysis and visualization for office and research. Over 55 staff members are participate in this course. Information Technology Center stated a training programme for the second batch of the SITSEP programme on 2022 August 16. In this programme mainly focused to develop IT knowledge on the Health Center staff members at University of Peradeniya. Over 30 members are participated to this programme. Prof. Janaka Wijekulasuriya, Director, Information Technology Center made the welcome address. He presented the importance of the strong technical skills in IT are essential in today’s changing world.
Information Technology Center stated a training programme of the SITSEP advanced level programme on 2022 June 17. This programme was targeted at the employees of University of Peradeniya whose work involves or whose quality of works has potentials to be enhanced using IT based data visualization and analysis. Over 40 members are participated to this programme. Dr. Janaka Wijekulasuriya, Director, Information Technology Center conduced this programme.
6th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems, ICIIS 2021 was held on 2021 December 9-10. This event was organized by Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Faculty of Engineering and all technical support was provided by the Information Technology Center, University of Peradeniya.
Computer hardware training program which was organized by WIE IEEE affinity group of university of peradeniya was held on 22,24,25 th of july,2019 at the IT center of University of Peradeniya with the supervision of Dr. Janaka Wijayakulasooriya and Dr. Maheshi Dissanayake. The event was held to acquire more knowledge about Computer hardware for the IT teachers belong to kandy zonal educational department. The participants were divided into teams based on their preferences. The introductory session about computer hardware was held prior to this event. After the introductory session, the participants got the opportunity to complete some given tasks through a lab session with the help of the staff members at the IT center and the IEEE members.
Inaugural Ceremony of Diploma in Information Technology (DITUP) organized by the Information Technology Centre, UoP was held on 3rd September 2019 at the IT Centre premises with the presence of Professor Upul B. Dissanayake, Vice-Chancellor of the University. Professor Saluka Kodithuwakku, Dean, Faculty of Science, Dr. Janaka Wijekulasuriya, Director, IT Centre, staff members of the IT Centre and the students also participated in this inaugural session.
The Information Technology Center organized a Blood Donation Camp on 22nd of May 2018. Many people donated blood, also many volunteers agreed in donating their Organs after their death.
The twenty fifth South Asia Network Operators Group (SANOG) conference will be hosted by LEARN in the historical city of Kandy, Sri Lanka from 16th to 24th January 2015 in collaboration with Information Technology Center, University of Peradeniya with the support of University of Peradeniya. This is the fourth time a SANOG event is being hosted in Sri Lanka and it has been hosted two times by LEARN.
The venue of the conference is Amaya Hills Hotel, a location with excellent panoramic view and the tutorials & workshops was held at Information Technology Center, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.

IT Center participated in the exhibition held on 14th to 16th November, 2008 at Queen’s hotel, Kandy, organized by the “Sri Lanka Computer Vendors’ Association”.
The IT Center organized and held a special staff development workshop for the staff members of the Center at Hotel Hilltop, Kandy on 22nd November, 2008.
In an effort to sustain good practices initiated under the IRQUE project, the Center funded the above training program designed for the Faculty of Arts.
Fulfilling the responsibility towards disseminating knowledge and enhancing the ICT skills of the future generation, the IT Center has taken steps beyond the boundaries of the University and engaging in teacher training programs.
The IT Center fully supported students’ initiatives such as this towards disseminating knowledge and upbringing skills, and facilitated holding seminars and workshops.
The visit by the CEO of SLT marked another major linkage between the IT Center and industry giants. A separate laboratory dedicated for research and development in networking research was established under this partnership.
The IT Center took another major leap towards establishing links with one of the networking giants, CISCO and being in the forefront of providing professional training programs when it established the CISCO Networking Academy under the CISCO Networking Academy Program (CNAP).
The IT Center was in the forefront in providing education to all, and its steps such as this paved the way for those outside the university, especially school children, to reap benefits from the technological resources available in the University.
One of the main responsibilities of the IT Center was to uplift the ICT skills of the undergraduates of the Faculty of Arts. The grants received for ICT enhancement were fully utilized towards achieving this objective in the early years of the Center.
